Another one of those pieces of writing advice that might be hard to achieve, but works well once executed, is stopping yourself in the middle of a segment you really want to write.
Much of author life is dragging your feet through all the less exciting chapters and getting to the good stuff. And once we do, we almost cannot rest until we’ve completely drawn out that one very special scene we’ve been waiting for. And then just like that, it’s over. And we’re back to staring blankly at our computer screens and twiddling our thumbs.
A tip for the next time inspiration strikes: write just long enough to reach a point where you’ll be eager to pick up where you left off later, instead of writing straight through the scene you’re excited about. This will help draw you back into the writing mindset after a break / good night’s rest, and keep a steadier writing flow over an extended period of time.
